Cat severely kicked, resulting in death
London, ON (CA)

Incident Date: Saturday, Sep 6, 2008

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Jeffrey Kloosterboer

A 19-year-old man has been charged in a case of animal abuse that saw a cat severely kicked by a male suspect, leading authorities to euthanize the animal as the "only humane course of action."

The incident occurred just after 3 a.m., Saturday (Sept. 6), when officers with the London police Project L.E.A.R.N. were on patrol on Farnsborough Crescent, in the area of Fanshawe College, when they observed a male suspect chase a cat over several front lawns.

"The male was then observed to kick the cat causing it severe injury," police said.

The man was arrested and Animal Control was notified.

"It was determined that the cat was so severally injured that the only humane course of action was to put it down," police said.

As a result of the investigation, Jeffrey Kloosterboer, 19, of Flesherton, is charged with one count of injuring an animal contrary to the Criminal Code and one count of being intoxicated in a public place contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.

Police and Animal Control have not been able to locate the owner of the cat which is described as a Persian cat, possibly a Persian-cross, crème coloured with a darker face and lighter coloured chest.

Anyone with information that would assist in locating the owner of the cat is asked to call London police at 519-661-5670.
