An eastern Tennessee sheriff's deputy was in stable condition after being shot while responding to a domestic dispute.

The man who police say shot the deputy Saturday afternoon was killed by other officers.

Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes said the deputy was shot in the face by the man. A K-9 officer, Max, also was shot.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm said the deputy was in stable condition Sunday.

The sheriff's department did not release the shooter's name.

Mathes said another deputy on the scene fired at the man who shot the deputy, killing him.
