Thirty dogs seized from neglect
South Holland, IL (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Aug 30, 2008
County: Cook

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Eric Turner

Upcoming Court Dates:
» Thursday, Dec 11, 2008

A South Holland man was charged Monday with 30 counts of cruel treatment to animals after 30 dogs were removed Saturday from a house in Homewood.

Eric Turner, 40, of Kimbark, is the owner of the animals that were removed from the house at 1036 W. 187th, Cook County Sheriff police said.

The misdemeanor charges could be upped to felony aggravated abuse after a veterinarian's report is submitted to the state's attorney's office, said Larry Draus, investigator for Cook County sheriff's police's special investigative unit.

The dogs, of various breeds including several pit bulls, were taken to AAA Kennels in Steger and the South Suburban Humane Society in Chicago Heights. Homewood police reported many of the dogs were malnourished, sickly and in need of medical treatment

The dogs were taken by the humane society from the residence after Homewood police responded to a report of animal cruelty.

The property has been declared uninhabitable by Homewood's building department. The property owner, Nakesha Tibbs, 33, was cited with four violations of the Homewood Municipal Code.

The South Suburban Humane Society is seeking volunteers and donations to help care for the dogs. Interested people may contact Emily Gruszka of the South Suburban Humane Society at (708) 218-8411 or by e-mail at emily@sshspets.org.
